The Wiesenbauschule Suderburg , founded in 1853, was one of the oldest agricultural educational institutions in northern Germany . Through the development of the " Suderburger back construction ", a then new type of irrigation system , it also became known nationwide. The school was later upgraded to a state engineering school and was merged with the Northeast Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences in 1971 . Since 2009, the Suderburg location , which still focuses on hydraulic engineering, has been part of the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences .

history

The school was founded in the winter of 1853 by 72 meadow farmers in Suderburg. The subject matter was technical measures to improve the yields of meadow areas. Initially, only half-yearly courses were held from November to March. The lessons first took place on various farms and later in an inn. The first school building was built in 1898. The building was later increased by one floor and taken into use on October 1, 1905. Karl Hillmer , director from 1898 to 1935, was largely responsible for the school's rise. In 1930 it was recognized as a higher technical school .

The facility has been renamed and upgraded several times over the years: ( State-recognized Cultural Building School Suderburg from 1928, State Engineering School for Water Management and Cultural Technology Suderburg (SIS), Lower Saxony State Building School for Water Management and Cultural Technology ) and was merged with the Northeast Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences (FH NON) in 1971 .

After the merger of the FH NON with the University of Lüneburg in 2005, the Suderburg campus was initially part of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg until September 2009 . Today it belongs to the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (formerly FH Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel).

The Suderburg location has a fully functional Zuse Z22R as a special feature .
