The archipelago Britania ( Britania Group of Islands ) is an archipelago off the coast of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines . The group of over 24 islands is located in the northern part of Lianga Bay , Surigao del Sur province . The islands are uninhabited and together measure only a few hectares. The islands are remnants of coral reefs that were pushed above the surface of the water by tectonic forces. The islands are mostly overgrown with mangroves and are surrounded by white coral sand beaches.
The largest of them is Boslon Island, named after a priest who worked in San Agustin after World War II . The other islands are called:
- Panlangagan Cave Island
- Panlangagan Forest Island, both can be reached on foot from Boslon at low tide
- Bonbon Island
- Hagonoy Island
- Isla Verde Island
- Naked Island, it is an elongated barren sandbank
- Panas Island
- Minasingin Island
- Malingin Island
- Litik Island, this one has the shape of a mushroom
- Kang Jose Island
- Kanlota Island
- Taguan Island
- Panas Island
- San Pablo Island
- Hiyor Hiyoran Island
The shape and appearance of the islands are reminiscent of the islands in the Hundred Islands National Park , but in contrast to these, they are largely unknown. The archipelago is only a few hundred meters off the coast of Barangay Britania in the municipality of San Agustin in the Philippine Sea . They can be reached with the boats of the local fishermen.
