The British Rail Class 378 (British Class 378) is a British local train that operates some routes on the London Overground in London . The electric train was built by Bombardier Transportation in Derby , England and belongs to the Electrostar series (consisting of Class 357, Class 375, Class 376, Class 377, Class 378, Class 379, Class 387).

The train is divided into Class 378/1 and Class 378/2 . The Class 378/1 is powered by electricity via a conductor rail and runs on the East London Line / South London Line between Highbury & Islington / Dalston Junction and New Cross / Crystal Palace / West Croydon / Clapham Junction . The Class 378/2 can receive power from busbars and overhead lines and serves the North London Line / West London Line between Stratford and Richmond - Clapham Junction , the Watford DC Line between London Euston and Watford Junction and occasionally the East London Line / South London Line .

The Class 378 originally consisted of 4 cars, but was extended to 5 cars between the end of 2014 and 2016.
