Routing

The Inner South London Line runs from Victoria via Clapham High Street , Denmark Hill and South Bermondsey to London Bridge.

history

In 1862 the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) was commissioned to build the gap between the Chatham Main Line and the South Eastern Main Line , the two operators of which were in competition. In 1903 the line was electrified as the first in England. Until 2012, Southern trains ran on the route between Victoria and London Bridge as a shuttle service. In addition, the trains Victoria - Lewisham - Dartford and Sutton - London Bridge and the Thameslink connections used sections of the Inner South London Line.

business

The extension of the East London Line from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction has been in operation since 2012 , using the Inner South London Line from Queens Road (Peckham) to Wandsworth Road . It is the case that the Inner South London Line is only served by London Overground trains every 15 minutes, which means that the direct connections between Victoria and London Bridge were canceled despite various local protests. Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye have been offering transfer options to Thameslink since then . In addition, the following connections use the Inner South London Line in part: From London Victoria via Peckham Rye to Lewisham and Dartford, and from London Bridge via Peckham Rye to Croydon and further.

A reactivation of the Brixton East station by the London Overground is up for debate, because Brixton station is in the immediate vicinity with the Victoria Line of London Underground , but has not yet taken place (2015).

Route

The 25.7 kilometer long Outer South London Line (OSLL) runs from Victoria via Clapham Junction , Crystal Palace and New Cross Gate to London Bridge.

history

In 1854, the Crystal Palace - Sydenham section of the West End of London and Crystal Palace Railway opened as the Crystal Palace was relocated from Hyde Park to south London. Sydenham was on the line of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway . On December 1, 1856, the connection between Crystal Palace and Clapham Junction was opened, with the connection to the London and South Western Railway (now South Western Main Line ) being made possible in Clapham Junction . The line serves as a connection between the two north branches of the Brighton Main Line , which end in Victoria and London Bridge.

business

In addition to the through trains Victoria - London Bridge stopping everywhere, various train routes also serve the Outer South London Line.

  • Southern : London Victoria to Brighton / Eastbourne - Ore : runs between London Victoria and Balham or Crystal Palace stations on the OSLL and also lets their express trains stop in Clapham Junction.
  • Southern: London Bridge to Brighton / Eastbourne: operates between Sydenham and London Bridge on the OSLL
  • Thameslink : Bedford - London Bridge - Brighton: operates between London Bridge and Sydenham on the OSLL
  • London Overground : The 1st extension of the East London Line uses the OSLL between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace and runs on it every quarter of an hour with stops at all stations.
  • There are also trains to Epsom and Beckenham Junction on the OSLL between Victoria and Crystal Palace.
  • The Southern trains Milton Keynes Central - East Croydon, which run via the West London Line , run between Clapham Junction and Balham via the OSLL and serve all stations.
