The tower station has platforms on two different levels. Platforms 4 and 5 are on the upper level. This is where the North London Line runs , a semi-circular line that circumnavigates the city center north between Richmond and Stratford . Willesden Junction is also the starting point for the West London Line via Kensington (Olympia) to Clapham Junction . Both routes are part of the London Overground network .

Platforms 1 to 3 are located on the lower level, which crosses the upper level almost at right angles. This part of the station is served by overground suburban trains between London Euston and Watford Junction ( Watford DC Line ) and by the Bakerloo Line of London Underground . Some Bakerloo trains turn around at Willesden Junction instead of continuing to Harrow & Wealdstone .

history

The station in 1962

From 1837 trains of the London and Birmingham Railway on the West Coast Main Line passed through here without stopping. The successor company London and North Western Railway (LNWR) opened the station on September 1, 1866 on the existing line. The North London Line followed in 1869. The LNWR took up electrical suburban traffic on June 15, 1912 on the parallel Watford DC Line. Trains of the Bakerloo Line first reached Willesden Junction on May 10, 1915, almost two years later they continued in the direction of Watford .

The long-distance platforms on the West Coast Main Line were dismantled in 1962 when the line was electrified to enable a route with a larger radius. However, reactivation of the platforms is under discussion, which may require modifications to the higher level - the North London Line platforms.
