Watford Junction

The Watford Junction railway station is the largest station of the English town of Watford . It is located on the West Coast Main Line and the Watford DC Line, which runs parallel to it . In addition, a short branch line branches off to St Albans .

history

The station was opened to traffic on May 5, 1858 when the line to St. Albans was opened. He replaced Watford's first station in the north. In 1909 it was rebuilt, in 1980 and currently it has been or is being subjected to major renovation and renovation work.

1917 was Bakerloo Line of the London Underground extends to Watford Junction, but the trains operating between was after heavy loss to Watford in the 1960s Stonebridge Park and Watford Junction set in 1982, but back to the 1984 Harrow & Wealdstone extended.

On January 23, 1975, a serious train accident occurred south of the station when the express train Manchester - London Euston derailed due to goods on the track. Then there was a collision with the Euston - Glasgow night train, which ran in the opposite direction , in which the driver of the train from Manchester lost his life and 11 other people were injured. The investigation revealed that the goods had fallen from a Ford Company freight train that had recently passed the route. Although all doors of the freight train were locked on departure, three were open after the accident. Officially, the three open doors were labeled an act of vandalism , which occurred when the train stopped at Gospel Oak station .

The station is served by the railway companies Virgin Trains , Southern , London Midland and London Overground , which, with the exception of Southern, end in London at Euston station.

Metropolitan Line

Construction work is currently underway on the Croxley Rail Link , which will connect Watford Junctions to the London Underground's Metropolitan Line . The previous Metropolitan Line terminus Watford is outside the city center. Completion is expected in 2020. A disused railway line is used for the connection.
