Theater Canton Zurich
The Theater Kanton Zürich is a mobile professional theater in the Canton of Zürich . It makes on-site demonstrations in the individual communities throughout the canton of Zurich as well as at its headquarters in Winterthur , where it has theater and office space as well as practice rooms.
history
The theater was founded in Winterthur in the summer of 1971 as the “ Theater Cooperative for the Canton of Zurich”. First, the ensemble trained in the Casinotheater Winterthur and also had a truck available. It was not until 1980 that practice rooms in the Shedhalle on the Sidi area in Winterthur could be moved, later the rest of the theater moved into the Sidi area, including the office space that had been in the Winterthur city administration until then. Over time, a repertoire of up to nine different pieces per season (with four to five of their own creations being among them) was built up, and it still exists today. Since 2001 the theater has also been subsidized by the Canton of Zurich. Because of the planned redevelopment of the Sidi area, the theater had to move again and moved to the former premises of the Winterthur printing company in Winterthur- Grüze .
ensemble
The Theater Kanton Zürich has a professional ensemble with 30 permanent and 20 freelance employees. Each year the ensemble performs up to nine different pieces in around 150 performances, including four to five in-house productions. A children's or youth play is also rehearsed alternately each year. The long-time artistic director Jordi Vilarda was replaced by Rüdiger Burbach in the 2010/11 season .
organization
The theater is run by the Theater Cooperative for the Canton of Zurich. Members of the cooperative are communities, school communities and individuals. The cooperative determines the framework conditions for the theater and elects the artistic director, who is also the director of the theater. In addition, it has the duty of supervision and determines the long-term future of the theater. 114 political communities, 24 school communities and 345 private individuals are currently members of the cooperative (as of July 2010).
financing
The theater has an annual turnover of 3 million francs. The largest part of this is provided by the canton of Zurich, which supports the theater with 1.68 million francs annually, with the amount being adjusted to reflect inflation. Further sources of income are income from own ideas as well as contributions from municipalities and private individuals, each with CHF 500,000. The most important individual sponsor is the Zürcher Kantonalbank with 180,000 francs.
