Grüze is a district of the city of Winterthur . Together with the quarters of Guggenbühl , Talacker , Hegmatten , Hegi , Zinzikon , Reutlingen , Stadel and Ricketwil , it forms district 2 ( Oberwinterthur ). Grüze has been a commercial and industrial quarter since it was built around Winterthur-Grüze train station . The quarter extends from the train station in an easterly direction. In addition to large industrial companies, shopping centers shape the face of the quarter today.
Word origin
Grüze, called Grüzen on old plans , refers to a "sandy, dry place in a field where the plants become lean or die in hot weather " according to the Swiss Idiotikon .
history
The Grüzen , still completely uninhabited on the game map from 1842, grew together with the opening of the Grüze train station in 1855 to become a place that was already characterized by industry at the time and belonged to the municipality of Oberwinterthur. From 1875 the newly built Tösstalbahn stopped at the Grüze station and then continued towards the lakes, thus strengthening the importance of the place, which now had a separation station. The rapidly growing village received its first independent mailbox in 1889; previously, mail was distributed from Oberwinterthur.
Around 1900, Grüze was an industrial town with 226 inhabitants in 23 houses. The Geilinger metal structures , a petroleum warehouse , a guano factory , the Swiss nail factory and, from 1902, the Sträuli soap factory were located here . At the turn of the century, the previous post office was converted into an independent post office.
In 1922, Grüze was incorporated into the city of Winterthur as part of the Oberwinterthur community with the other suburbs. In 1932 the post office moved away from the quarter, which had meanwhile grown together with Winterthur, and opened its new quarter further into the city as "Post Geiselweid" on Thurgauerstrasse. In the 1950s, Sulzer expanded its production facilities north of the Grüze train station, thereby giving Grüze an even greater feel as an industrial district.
Development plans
A major change is predicted for the district in the coming decades. Part of the quarter belongs to the Neuhegi urban development area and is located in a planning zone of cantonal importance. The city planners assume that the district will become a second center of the city of Winterthur by 2030. Major changes have been visible in the eastern part of the quarter since 2005. On the former industrial site of Sulzer AG , the Eulachpark is a large city park and residential buildings with hundreds of residential units have been built. A bus bridge is to be built over the Grüze station to make the station more attractive for commuters.
education
Since Grüze itself is an industrial quarter, there are only a few school buildings in the quarter and the students mostly go to school in the neighboring quarters. Strictly speaking, however, the Eulachpark school building, which is part of the Hegi primary school, is still in the Grüze district.
Also in the Grüze are the Grüze school building of the Winterthur vocational school and one of the two school buildings of profil, a vocational preparation year (10th school year) of the city of Winterthur.
traffic
The district is accessed by public transport with lines 3, 5, and 7 of the Winterthur city bus , which, however, tend to access the district on the edge. The architecturally unique and listed Winterthur-Grüze train station is located in the center of the quarter and thus ensures a good connection to public transport via the S-Bahn. Two main streets open up the Grüze for motorized traffic: St.Gallerstrasse in a west-east direction and Seenerstrasse in a north-south direction. The municipal transport companies operate the Grüzefeld depot on Grüzestrasse .
