Talacker is a district of the city of Winterthur . Together with the quarters of Guggenbühl , Grüze , Hegmatten , Hegi , Zinzikon , Reutlingen , Stadel and Ricketwil , it forms district 2 ( Oberwinterthur ).
Neighborhood structure
The Talacker district encompasses the historic core of Oberwinterthur and the current center of the Oberwinterthur district. In addition to the well-preserved half-timbered houses in the center and several large apartment blocks, the Stadtrain settlement (called “Birchermüesliquartier”) in the south and a single-family house and villa district on a promising hillside location belong to the quarter. Two traffic axes run through the quarter: Frauenfelderstrasse and Rychenbergstrasse. The quarter has around 6500 inhabitants. 24% of the residents are of foreign nationality. 17% of the population are of senior age.
As the center of the district 2, the Talacker district has a good infrastructure. Several shops and restaurants, a post office, a reformed church ( St. Arbogast ) and a Catholic church ( St. Marien ), two high school houses (Lindberg, Rychenberg), three primary school houses (Römerstrasse, Rychenberg, Talacker), kindergartens and sports facilities. The annual city district festival (Oberi-Fäscht) takes place in the historic village center.
Personalities
The ETH professor and Nobel laureate in chemistry Richard R. Ernst lives in the Talacker district. Michael Künzle , the mayor of Winterthur, also lives with his family in the Talacker district.
traffic
The district is accessed by public transport with lines 1 and 10 of the Winterthur city bus . The Oberwinterthur train station is right on the eastern border of the district.
Curiosities
The Stadtrain row house settlement south of Frauenfelderstrasse is popularly known as the Birchermüesli Quarter . The reason for this is the street names there, such as Apfelweg, Quittenweg, Birnenweg or Pfirsichweg.
