history
The so-called Thurtallinie or Bodenseebahn, which runs from Zurich via Winterthur to Romanshorn, was opened in 1855, but the then independent municipality of Oberwinterthur did not get a train station until 1875. This was done by the construction of the Winterthur – Etzwilen railway line by the national railway (SNB) which led from Etzwilen on to Singen and Konstanz or Kreuzlingen. Coming from Winterthur, the line ran parallel to the Swiss Northeast Railway (NOB) line. It only became a real double-track line in the year after the nationalization of the NOB, under the aegis of the SBB in 1903. Before that, the two tracks were operated as two single-track lines, although the NOB had been in possession since 1877 - after the bankruptcy of the SNB both routes was.
The current station building in neo-baroque style was built in 1918.
