history
The hamlet of Ricketwil emerged from a clearing yard around the 8th century . In the 15th century, it came to the Counts of Fürstenberg through inheritance from the last Baron von Klingen, together with the Bailiwicks of Oberwinterthur and Wiesendangen . In 1476 they built a new farm together with the fiefdom, which still exists today. In 1541 this farm was divided into two parts when the fiefs were awarded , creating the two Zelge Ober- and Unterricketswil . After the Counts of Fürstenberg failed to comply with the granting of fiefs for several generations, they released Ricketwil from fiefdom in 1641. Now Ricketwil could develop freely, which among other things resulted in new houses being built. In 1634 Ricketwil had five households with three families. In 1643 there were already seven households. In 1708 there were 98 and in 1720 116 inhabitants.
Around the middle of the 17th century the Oberwinterthur households called for "ennet der Grüze" to have their own church. The way to the service in Oberwinterthur is too far. A second church is to be built in Seen. In 1649 the new church was inaugurated and in 1651 Seen separated from the parish of Oberwinterthur. Despite their geographical proximity to lakes, the Ricketwiler decided not to move to the new parish and stayed in Oberwinterthur. The parish of Oberwinterthur later became the political municipality of Oberwinterthur, to which Ricketwil belonged from then on. However, the hamlet formed its own civil parish until 1922 . When it was incorporated in 1922, Ricketwil remained in the Oberwinterthur district.
