Eidberg is an outside guard and at the same time a district of the city of Winterthur and belongs to District 3 ( lakes ). The hamlets Taa and Binzenloo are also part of the outside watch.

history

Eidberg is mentioned for the first time in a document dated July 28, 1264, when Count Hartmann the Elder bequeathed a "Schupposse" in Eidberg to the Heiligberg Monastery. Two years later, Eidberg was mentioned again in a donation from Rudolf von Habsburg when he bequeathed his property there to the Wettingen monastery .

In addition, the von Eidberg family of traffic administration existed, which is said to have performed traffic services on the old road between Kollbrunn and Waltenstein . The family is mentioned in a document once in a deed of donation from Hartmann von Kyburg to the canons of Heiligenberg , where he bequeathed a shed in Unterseen to the monastery, which belonged to a Berchtold von Eidberg. Its tower was probably on the castle meadow near the castle wood, whose traces, according to a report by a Colonel Haab, are said to have been clearly visible in 1850.

According to the Zurich tax code of 1460, there were four households in Eidberg, based on which Kläui estimated the hamlet's population to be 27. In the 1630s between 75 and 85 people lived in Eidberg and between 15 and 17 households were inhabited. This number sank a decade later to 66 inhabitants and then increased sharply: in 1630 130 inhabitants were counted, in 1682 and 1690 130 inhabitants. After a decline during the Little Ice Age to 107 in 1695, the population rose to 170 in 34 households by 1722. The same number of inhabitants was recorded in 1738, in 1765 there were ten fewer people, only to increase again to 182 in 1771. At the end of the Ancien Regime in 1799, the population sank again to only 158 inhabitants.

Eidberg itself has not grown significantly since the 20th century and has thus retained its village character; the incorporation into the city of Winterthur in 1922 has not changed anything and there are still active farms in the village itself.

traffic

Eidberg is served by line 9 of Stadtbus Winterthur , which connects Eidberg and other surrounding outdoor watchdogs with Winterthur-Seen train station . In the evening the line is operated as an on-call bus.

Until 2008, Eidberg and the other outside guards were still connected directly to Winterthur main station with the Postbus line 681 .

education

In the small school house in Eidberg, which belongs to the Aussenwachten school association, two middle school classes are taught.

For the upper level, the pupils have to go to Oberseen secondary school.
