Urban district Lakes (District 3)
Map of the quarter

Waser is a district of the city of Winterthur , which belongs to urban district 3 ( lakes ). The quarter was created as part of the building boom of the 1970s together with the Wingertli multi-family house development. The quarter is named after Johann Heinrich Waser , who was bailiff on the Kyburg from 1646 to 1652 and who allowed Seen to build his own church during his time in office. In his honor there is still a memorial stone by the church , and with Landvogt-Waser-Strasse there is also a street named after him.

geography

The Waser district includes the new development areas from the 1970s and 1980s as well as parts of the original village center at the south-eastern tip of the district, particularly along the Hinterdorfstrasse, Werdstrasse and Schwerzenbachstrasse. In the north, adjacent to the Grüze industrial quarter , there is also an industrial area along the Im Hölderli street. The quarter is located north of the original village center at the northwest end of the urban district, does not include any forest areas and is therefore relatively flat. The lowest point is about 452  m above sea level. M. at the roundabout Etzberg- / Seemerstrasse and the highest point at 468  m above sea level. M. at Winterthur-Seen train station .

The boundaries of the district run in the southeast to the Büelwiesen district along Hinterdorfstrasse in the southeast. Thereafter, the railway line of the Tösstalbahn forms the border to the Sonnenberg district in the east , although the Seen train station itself is not part of the district area. In the northwest, the railway line and then the Seenerstrasse to the roundabout at the Etzberg bus station form the border to the Grüze industrial quarter, which is part of the Oberwinterthur district. Between the roundabout and Tösstalstrasse, the border with the Mattenbacher Quartier Gutschick runs along the Seens settlement border. In the southwest, the Tösstalstrasse forms the border with the Waldegg district .

education

The primary school Tägelmoos is located in the center of the quarter. The three kindergartens Sonnenfeld, Sünnacker and Wingertli are not far from the primary school building between apartment blocks. Another kindergarten (Hinterdorf) is located in the southeast on Hinterdorfstrasse. The Büelwiesen secondary school is located in the district of the same name, southeast of Waser.

Secondary schools are located in the city center.

history

Aerial photo from 1979, the district was still called Neudorf at that time

Most of the Wasers district was created with the first urban residential block development in Seens, the Wingertli development, which was built during the construction boom of the 1970s. At the same time, the Tägelmoos primary school building, located in the center of the district, opened in 1971 and the St. Urban Catholic Church on the corner of Seener- and Landvogt-Waser-Strasse in 1974. At that time, the newly emerging district was still known as Neudorf.

Previously there were mostly not even roads in the area, and the area was only built over in the area in the center of the town in the south and near the Seen train station.

Transport links

The district is served by two trolleybus routes from Stadtbus Winterthur : Trolleybus route 3 (Rosenberg – HB – Oberseen) runs through the district along Seener- and Landvogt-Waser-Strasse. Trolleybus line 2 (Wülflingen – HB – Seen) runs along Tösstalstrasse, and there is also a bus stop on the line that bears the name of the quarter.

At the eastern end of the quarter is the Winterthur-Seen train station, which offers direct S-Bahn connections to Winterthur city center and Zurich .
