Gotzenwil is an outside watch and at the same time a district of the city of Winterthur and belongs to district 3 ( lakes ). The Weierhöhe settlement and the Ziegelhütte hamlet are part of the outer watch.

geography

Gotzenwil is located southeast of Seen, above the town center. The Weierhöhe settlement southwest of Gotzenwil also belongs to the district area .

history

Gotzenwil was first mentioned in a document in 869. At that time there was a Vogt named Cozolt, after whom Gotzenwil was called “Cozzolteswilare”. At first the farm belonged to the St. Gallen Monastery , later to the Counts of Kyburg . In 1330 the Lords of Eppenstein were rulers of the area before the tithe on May 24, 1398, the Gozatwille farm was transferred to the Beerenberg monastery near Wülflingen. The Gotzenwil court then remained tithing to the monastery until the Reformation, after the abolition of the monastery in 1525, this function was taken over by the Zurich rule, represented by the Winterthur office. In 1824, the Gotzenwil farm, like the other farms in the Seen municipality, was no longer run under a tithing obligation after years of effort by the municipality.

In 1868 the hamlet joined the civil parish of Iberg and was incorporated into Winterthur in 1921 together with the formerly independent community of Seen.

In October 1949, the Gotzenwil was connected to public transport for the first time with the opening of the Oberwinterthur – Seen – Gotzenwil – Eidberg – Thaa – Iberg bus line. For the second time in modern history, the city made an attempt to build over part of the land reserves between Gotzenwil and Oberseen. The settlement successfully defended itself against this with the “Gotzenwil stays green” initiative.

traffic

Gotzenwil is served by the Stadtbus Winterthur line 9 , which connects Gotzenwil and other surrounding outposts with the Winterthur-Seen train station . In the evening the line is operated as an on-call bus. Until 2008, Gotzenwil and the other outside guards were connected directly to Winterthur main station with the Postbus line 681 .

Gotzenwil is connected to Oberseen by a footpath . Access for individual and bus traffic is via the Seemer Buck.

education

Gotzenwil itself does not have a school building; the pupils go to school in the other outside guards. There is a kindergarten in Weierhöhe.

For the upper level, the pupils have to go to Oberseen secondary school.
