Map of the quarter

Büelwiesen is a district of the city of Winterthur , which belongs to the city district 3 ( lakes ).

geography

The quarter is in the middle of lakes and is surrounded by other quarters. To the north of the quarter is the Waser quarter , the border here runs along Hinterdorfstrasse. In the southeast the Guggenbühl district borders on Büelwiesen, from which it is largely separated by Tösstalstrasse and Oberseenerstrasse. On the other side of the Tösstalbahn to the east are the Sonnenberg and Oberseen quarters .

The Mattenbach flows through Büelwiesen and is overturned in front of the center of Seens.

education

Entrance of the Büelwiesen school building

The Büelwiesen secondary school is centrally located in the quarter. However, most of the primary school pupils in the neighborhood have to attend in the Oberseen primary school. However, the Büelhofstrasse kindergarten, which belongs to the Oberseen primary school, is located in the district itself, directly opposite the secondary school.

There are secondary schools in the city center.

population

The proportion of foreigners in the quarter is within the urban average and the age structure does not differ to any great extent from the urban average. Only the proportion of over 65-year-olds, at 20%, is almost a quarter above the urban average of 15%, but only one percent above the average for the lakes district.

history

The western part of the district along Tösstalstrasse and Hinterdorfstrasse were built over early on as part of the originally independent community of Seen. The first real development plans for the entire district originate from the time of the Second World War, when the city first sketched the development of the entire area between Tösstalstrasse and the railway line as part of the development plan “Neudorf - Auf Pünten”, even if the current development does not include the plans has much more in common. In 1957, the expanded Büelwiesen secondary school was opened in the center of the district, which was supposed to cope with the then increasing number of pupils in the Mattenbach and Sonnenberg districts. The actual, large majority of the development of the rest of the quarter away from Tösstaler-, Kanzlei- and Oberseenerstrasse began, as in the rest of the lake, with the construction boom in the 1970s. During this time, in 1973, the Seen shopping center was built on Kanzleistrasse at what was then known as the “Turnhalle” (now “Center Lakes”). Eleven years later, the new Post Lakes building was opened on the same street.

Transport links

The Winterthur-Seen train station is located in the north of the quarter and offers direct S-Bahn connections to Winterthur city center and Zurich .

The quarter is also served by several bus lines from Stadtbus Winterthur : Trolleybus line 2 (Wülflingen – HB – Seen) runs from Tösstalstrasse via Kanzleistrasse to the terminus at Bahnhof Seen. Bus line 9 (Seen – Klösterli Iberg – Eidberg) also runs through Kanzleistrasse and connects the Seemer Aussenwachten from the Seen train station. Also near the train station on Landvogt-Waser-Strasse, the trolleybus line 3 (Rosenberg – HB – Oberseen) stops in the area and is also the closest public transport connection outside the area for residents of the southern part of the area.

In addition, the quarter borders on Tösstalstrasse to the west, which is the main street that connects Winterthur city center with Tösstal.
