history

The southern part of the quarter in 1964

Quartier Gutschick was built in the 1960s as a large cooperative development, only on Tösstalstrasse there were individual residential buildings. First the part south of Strahleggstrasse was built in the early 1960s, and in 1964 the Gutschick school building on the corner of Hörnlistrasse and Scheideggstrasse was built according to plans by Ulrich Baumgartner.

In the part to the north of Strahleggstrasse is the large “Grüzefeld” development built between 1965 and 1967, the city's first large prefabricated housing estate. The planning of this development began with an ideas competition as early as 1960, but due to various special permits that had to be obtained and the complicated ownership structure, it took five years before construction could begin. The two- to twelve-storey, element -built long residential buildings were given ironic names by the population after their completion, such as “Monkey Rocks” or “Zindel-Hörner”, alluding to Heinrich Zindel , the Social Democratic councilor at the time , who promoted the construction of these houses, which were deliberately designed with low interest rates would have.

Transport links

The quarter is opened up to the north and south by regular trolleybus routes operated by Stadtbus Winterthur . In the north, bus line 3 (Rosenberg – HB – Oberseen) runs along Grüzefeldstrasse in the direction of Oberseen and stops at the “Scheidegg” and “Strahlegg” stops at the level of the quarter. In the south, bus line 2 (Wülflingen – HB – Seen) in the direction of Seen serves the quarter with the stops “Endlicker”, “Gutschick” and “Waldegg”. The reinforcement line 2E also ends at the turning loop at the «Waldegg» bus stop.

On weekends, these stops are served by night buses N65 (Winterthur – Waldheim – Ice rink – Oberseen) and N68 (Winterthur – Rikon im Tösstal – Zell – Turbenthal – Wila), but only for getting off.
