The ice rink Deutweg , through a sponsorship agreement Zielbau Arena , is an ice rink in the city of Winterthur in the Swiss canton of Zurich . It is the venue of the ice hockey club EHC Winterthur and at the same time the only artificial ice rink in the city. In addition to the ice rink, the facility also has two outdoor lanes.
geography
Geographical location
The hall is located east of the city center on the northern border of the Mattenbach district and is part of the Deutweg sports complex, together with the Deutweg athletics facility and the Talgut football field.
Transport links
The best way to get to the hall from the main train station is with bus lines 5.3 or 14 from Stadtbus Winterthur . The Winterthur-Grüze station is about 600 meters away on foot. Up to 320 parking spaces are available for private transport if the civil defense gravel area is also used.
history
Four referendums were necessary before the ice rink could be built at its current location: In 1981, the population rejected the construction of a covered ice rink behind the existing grandstand of the former Zelgli ice rink . In 1989 the people accepted the construction of a roof over the existing ice rink. However, a suffrage appeal against the city, which was brought up to the federal court, led to a second vote, which was rejected in 1991. It was not until 1998 that the construction of an ice rink at Deutweg on the site of a Pünten facility was accepted in the fourth attempt . After tendering and testing, construction began in November 2001, with contaminated sites having to be remedied by February 2002 . On November 29, 2002, the facility was opened to the public with an opening ceremony.
Since June 2016 the ice rink has been called Zielbau Arena .
capacity
The stadium consists entirely of seats and can therefore accommodate 2,496 spectators. Depending on the event, the hall may also have a higher capacity if standing room and VIP area are included. The Zielbau Arena can hold up to 4,300 spectators for a concert.
use
In addition to the activities of the local clubs and public use, several larger events took place in Deutweg.
In addition to several international ice hockey games, the Swiss figure skating championships were held in 2008 as well as individual games of the 2011 women's ice hockey world championship . Since 2006, the Hallenmasters, an indoor soccer tournament , have been taking place on a weekend at the beginning of January . The floorball club HC Rychenberg Winterthur also played playoff games in the ice rink.
In addition, several concerts took place, including by Muse , Children of Bodom , Slipknot , Snow Patrol , Billy Talent , Papa Roach and Disturbed .
