Eulach Park
The Eulachpark is a public park in Neuhegi in the Oberwinterthur district of the city of Winterthur . It is the youngest park in Winterthur and was named after the Eulach that crosses the park.
history
The six hectares of land for the park in the former industrial area in Oberwinterthur were given to the city of Winterthur by Sulzer AG free of charge, with the city undertaking to build the park. In return, the Sulzer company was able to build on the remaining area more densely. Construction work began in late autumn 2006 and was divided into four stages. In August 2010, the first two construction phases were completed and the park was inaugurated with a neighborhood festival. The third stage was realized in 2012/13. The fourth and final part of the park was inaugurated on September 4, 2019.
Cherry trees
Inspired by the famous cherry blossoms in West Potomac Park in Washington, DC , in the United States , Japanese cherry blossoms ( Prunus serrulata kanzan ) were also planted in Eulach Park , in the north part of the park . The occasion was two anniversaries in 2014: on the one hand 150 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland , on the other hand Winterthur celebrated 750 years of city rights .
The cherry trees were inaugurated on May 3, 2014 with a hanami organized by the Winterthur Region Promotion Agency. The 60 Japanese cherry trees are intended to symbolize the long-standing friendship between Japan and Winterthur. The Japanese ambassador , Ryuhei Maeda , and the Winterthur city president, Michael Künzle , also took part in the event.
Skate park
There is a large skate park in the west part of the park (4th stage of expansion) . It is the third largest outdoor skate park in Switzerland. Its area is 8,500 square meters. The skate park is complemented by a wave track (pump track) and eleven industrial sculptures (turbine wheels, connecting rods, etc.), which are reminiscent of the prehistory of the park as a former industrial area.
location
The Eulachpark has an area of 54,623 m² and is located in the east of the city of Winterthur between the Oberwinterthur and Winterthur-Hegi train stations . You can also take line 7 of the Winterthur city bus and the 680 postbus to Eulachpark.
Awards
In 2013 the Eulachpark was awarded the "Golden Rabbit" by the magazine for architecture and design on the Hochparterre . The jury justified its first place in the "Landscape" category with the Eulach Park, which is large by Swiss standards.
