British Ecological Society

The British Ecological Society (BES) is the scientific society for ecology in the UK . The company is based in the Charles Darwin House. The society was founded in 1913 and was the first ecology society in the world.

It has about 4,000 members, 14% of whom are students. Membership is open to anyone outside the UK, with 38% of members living in 92 other states. Since its inception, BES has published the globally recognized journal Journal of Ecology . Over time, specialist magazines such as the Journal of Animal Ecology (1932), Journal of Applied Ecology (1964), Functional Ecology (1987) and Methods in Ecology and Evolution (2010) were added.
