British Overseas Territories Act 2002
The British Overseas Territories Act 2002 (2002, Chapter 8) is a law that was passed by the British Parliament in 2002 . It replaced in part, the British Nationality Act 1981 and placed among other things, the renaming of the "British dependent territories" (English. British Dependent Territories ) in " British Overseas Territories " ( English British Overseas Territories ) and the redefinition of citizenship in overseas territories firmly.
The law granted full British citizenship to all citizens of British overseas territories, with the exception of the sovereign military bases Akrotiri and Dekelia in Cyprus , effective May 21, 2002. Previously only residents of Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands had full citizenship. This allows citizens of overseas territories, among other things, to apply for a British passport, enter, live and work in the UK without a visa , and join the British armed forces or the police .
