The British Rail Hotel is a Grade II listed building (Monument Numbers 5838 & 5839) on North Wall Quay (No. 58-95) in Dublin , Ireland. The building was constructed by the London and North Western Railway Company (LNWR) from 1870 to 1900 to replace another hotel called the Prince of Wales. For this purpose, the LNWR bought the building and opened the new building in 1890. Two of the rear wings of the former hotel were integrated into the new building. At that time the hotel was still called "London & Northwestern Hotel". During the Irish War of Independence , the hotel was occupied by British officers and was then known as the British Rail Hotel. With the decline in ferry operations on North Wall Quay, the building was taken over by CIÉ . It was last used by Irish Rail as an office building and is now empty.
The London and Northwestern Railway Company (LNWR) had its own architects and draftsmen, so the hotel is believed to be an in-house design. The chief engineer (initially civil engineering assistant) was JB Stansby between 1852 and 1886. Stansby also designed the headquarters of the LNWR in London.
