British Society for the History of Science

The British Society for the History of Science (BSHS) is a society founded in 1947 by Francis Butler and the geologist Victor Eyles (1895–1978) for the history of science , the history of technology and the history of medicine.

They publish the following journals and series:

  • The British Journal for the History of Science (BJHS), quarterly peer reviewed:
  • BJHS Themes , an open access journal that appears annually, with peer review.
  • Viewpoint , the company's newsletter
magazine of the Society, published three times a year and featuring news and views from across the field [5]
  • BSHS Monographs , a series of monographs

Every two years, they award the Singer Prize for unpublished research essays by young academics and the Dingle Prize for the best comprehensible book on the history of science and the John Pickstone Prize for the best academic book in the history of science (both in English). From 2015 there is also the Ayrton Prize for web projects. From 1999 to 2009 the Slade Prize was also awarded for research into scientific methodology. They also award scholarships.

There is an annual general meeting in different cities.
