Brixia mortar

The Brixia Model 35 was an Italian 45mm mortar from World War II . The Brixia 45mm mortar was a close-range support weapon for the infantry. He was carried by the companies for their own fire support. It was by far one of the most complicated weapons in this field. In this mortar, the barrel rested on a four-legged frame. A base plate to absorb the recoil was not provided. The entire force of the recoil should be absorbed by the frame. The shooter was behind the gun. He was responsible for aiming and loading the propellant charge. A second soldier delivered the actual projectile. Well-rehearsed teams could achieve up to 18 rounds / min, although the rate of fire was normally much lower. Although the weapon was very complicated and unpopular with soldiers because of its weight, it remained in service throughout the war.
