The Cave Stream is a 594 m long cave in the region Canterbury in New Zealand . It is located on Arthur's Pass Road from Christchurch to the West Coast, 40 km from Arthur's Pass and 100 km from Christchurch. The cave is a central part of the 16.22-acre Cave Stream Scenic Reserve . It is accessible from the nearby State Highway 73 . The brook “Cave Stream” breaks through a hill here. The cave is accessible in summer when the water is warm and the water level is low, but dangerous in spring and heavy rainfall. At least one death from drowning and one from hypothermia are documented. A 3 meter high waterfall at the end of the cave is provided with chains as a climbing aid. The passage takes about an hour.
