Brompton Cemetery

Brompton Cemetery (dt. Cemetery Brompton ) is a cemetery close to Earls Court in West Brompton , part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in southwest London . The cemetery opened in 1840 under the name West of London and Westminster Cemetery and is one of the Magnificent Seven in London. The facility is managed by The Royal Parks , the royal park administration. The cemetery was created as a result of an Act of Parliament to alleviate the catastrophic shortage of space for burials in London, which in previous years had led to unsustainable hygienic conditions in the city. The facility is still used today for occasional funerals, but is increasingly being used as a park.
