The Bronco All Terrain Tracked Carrier is a buoyant multi-purpose vehicle manufactured by ST Kinetics (Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd) and designed for difficult terrain. The rubber track vehicle has a ground pressure of 60 KPa and consists of two parts. It looks confusingly similar to the Bandvagn 206 , but is bigger and heavier. Like this, the Bronco is also a vehicle that is divided into a front and a rear section, which can be steered by hydraulic articulated steering. It changes the position of the front and rear sections in relation to one another and thus enables the trailer to be steered. In addition, a two-axle trailer can be coupled to the rear vehicle.
The vehicle has been in service with the Singapore Army for several years , different versions have been developed:
- ambulance
- Repair and recovery vehicle
- Armored transport
- Troop transport
- Fuel supply vehicle
- 120 mm mortar vehicle
A total of over 600 are in service in Singapore.
Purchase by the UK
In December 2008, ST Kinetics won a £ 150 million contract from the UK Department of Defense to build 100 vehicles to replace the BvS10 in combat missions. The vehicle is called a Warthog (German: warthog ). The following variants are to be built:
- Troop transport
- ambulance
- Recovery vehicle with crane and 18 ton winch
- Lead vehicle
Delivery began with the unveiling of the first vehicle on November 19, 2009, when the multi-purpose vehicle, adapted to British needs, was presented by Thales UK in West Wales. The changes include additional armor, British radios and jammers. The mission in Afghanistan began in early 2011 in units of the Royal Armored Corps , the Bronco replaces the BvS10 Viking that had previously been used there . In the spring of 2011, IED attacks on eleven Warthogs took place. Two inmates were seriously injured. The Royal Marines continue to use the BvS10.
