The Jezeří dam ( Czech Vodní nádrž Jezeří, German Moritz dam, originally Eisenberger dam ) is a drinking water dam in the Bohemian Ore Mountains , Czech Republic. The complex with its arched quarry stone wall is a cultural monument.

geography

The dam is located six kilometers north of Jirkov in the municipality of Vysoká Pec on the Podhůří cadastre . It is located on the eastern border of the Okres Chomutov in the center of the Jezerka National Nature Reserve.

The Jezeří dam is located in the middle of forests on the southern slope of the Ore Mountains on Vesnický potok ("Eisenberger Waldbach"). To the north rise the Homolka (844 m) and Medvědí skála ("Bärenstein", 924 m), in the northeast of the Janský vrch ("Johannisberg", 739 m), east of the Jezerka ("Seeberg", 706 m) with the remains of the Castle Žeberk , in the south the Tereziína vyhlídka ("Theresiensitz") and to the west the Jedlová ("Tannich", 853 m).

The dammed water is the Vesnický potok, which flows into the Podkrušnohorský přivaděč at Vysoká Pec since the 1970s . Before that, the brook in Kundratice and Dřínov flowed in two arms into the Kundratický potok ("village brook").

The surrounding villages are Červená Jáma in the north, Jezeří in the east, Vysoká Pec in the south, Pyšná in the west and Lesná in the northwest.

history

The construction of the dam began in 1902 north of Hütte in the woods belonging to Schloss Eisenberg , at the instigation of Moritz von Lobkowitz, the owner of the Eisenberg and Neundorf an der Biele-Seeberg domains . It was built as a drinking and process water reservoir for the villages of Neundorf, Kunnersdorf , Hütte, Eisenberg , Seestadtl , Holtschitz and especially the princely Lobkowitz brewery in Neundorf. The project came from the engineer Müller. The construction company was Rella from Vienna, which brought Italian specialists to the country. In 1904 the construction of the Eisenberg dam was completed. A dam keeper's house was built at the foot of the dam. A water tower was built near Neundorf to compensate for the pressure loss in the North Bohemian Basin . The construction costs for the dam were 500,000 crowns.

Moritz von Lobkowitz did not live to see the completion, he died in 1903. In his honor, the Eisenberg dam was later named Moritz dam.

The villages originally supplied by the dam have all been liquidated since the 1960s because of lignite mining. Today the Jezeří dam, in conjunction with the Přísečnice , Křimov , Kamenička , Jirkov , Janov and Fláje dams , provides drinking water for the entire North Bohemian lignite basin.

The Jezeří dam is located in the first order drinking water protection area and is not open to the public.
