Dam wall

The Janov dam , also Mostecká přehrada (German Brüxer dam ), is located at the confluence of the Loupnice brooks (11.5 km long, rises on the Kamenec at an altitude of 781 m above sea level) and Klíny (rises in Klíny at an altitude of 765 sea above sea level and is 2 km long) in the Hammertal below Křížatky (Way of the Cross) in Okres Most , Czech Republic .

Dam wall

The dam is designed as a heavyweight wall made of quarry stone, 43 m high, the crown 226 m long and 4.5 m wide. The dam was built according to the Intze principle . It is one of the state-protected technical architectural monuments in the Czech Republic, as is the nearby Komotau Dam , which was built using the same construction method.

Reservoir

1.65 million cubic meters of water are dammed on an area of 10 hectares . The water surface is at an altitude of 448 meters above sea level, the deepest point is 44.5 meters and the average flow rate is 0.09 m³ / s.

history

The dam near Janov (Johnsdorf), originally called the dam of the city of Brüx and surrounded by beech forest, was built between 1910 and 1914 to improve the precarious situation of the drinking water supply in the city of Brüx . At the same time, it should prevent the annual spring floods in the valleys around Johnsdorf (Janov).

The decision to build it was made at the municipal council meeting on September 5, 1906. One of the largest projects in what was then Austria-Hungary was awarded to the Stuttgart engineer and professor at the Technical University in Stuttgart , Robert Weyrauch . Preparatory work began on September 21, 1910 with the clearing of the forest and the construction of the so-called valley road from Johnsdorf (Janov) to Einsiedl ( Mníšek v Krušných horách ). Construction work began in 1911, involving concrete workers and stonemasons from Italy and Croatia. The quarry stone was quarried in the nearby quarry. The foundation stone was laid on May 4, 1912, construction work was completed on December 5, 1913, and the damming of the water began on January 5, 1914. A few months later the filter system in the waterworks with a quick filter and an ozone sterilization system was put into operation. 1.5 million cubic meters of water were treated annually. The capacity is 70 l / s. The dam has been drained since 2007 so that it can be rehabilitated. Among other things, a control passage and a new bottom outlet will be established.
