Jezeří (German Eisenberg , before that Aysemberg, Ezenberk, Isenberg ) is a district of the municipality Horní Jiřetín in Okres Most ( Czech Republic ). The former village was located at the foot of the Ore Mountains northwest of the city of Most .

history

Partial view of Jezeří Castle

The first written mention comes from the year 1365, when Nevlas de Lacu alias de Aysemberg , a descendant of the Lords of Rvenice , probably the builder of the castle, was mentioned. The next time the place was mentioned in 1623, when the castle and the courtyards of Johann Nikolaus Hochhauser were confiscated. From 1727 the forester Alexander Gluck, who was in the service of the Lords of Lobkowicz , lived with his family on site. Among them was the son Christoph Willibald , who later became an important opera composer.

Initially there was only Eisenberg Castle and a courtyard; only at the end of the 18th century, when the lords of Lobkowicz took possession of the land, a small settlement with 16 houses was built. This grew up and already in 1846 there were 199 inhabitants, in 1910 there were 231. From June 21, 1943 to April 27, 1945 during the Second World War there was a satellite camp of the Flossenbürg concentration camp , in which mostly French officers were held. Until 1960 Jezeří was part of the Okres Chomutov . In the middle of the 20th century the soil of the village sagged more and more as a result of coal mining and the residents had to be relocated. At the end of the 20th century there were only three houses left.

In the steep, short and narrow valley through which the only road leads to Jezeří Castle today, the foundations of the Eisenberg houses are still visible on both sides of the street.
