Bruce Wells

Bruce Wells (* 1968 ) is an American Semitist .

Life

He obtained a BA in Religious Studies from Pensacola Christian College in 1989 and an MA in Semitic Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1997 ( Master's thesis The Connection between Deuteronomy 24: 1–4 and the Book's Other Laws on Sexual Relations (Supervisor: Richard E. Averbeck )) and in 2003 the Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University in Middle East Studies ( Dissertation : The Law of Testimony in the Pentateuchal Codes (Supervisors: Raymond Westbrook , Peter Kyle McCarter )). He teaches at the University of Texas at Austin , Department of Middle Eastern Studies (since 2018 Associate Professor), at Gustavus Adolphus College, Department of Religion (2003–2005 Visiting Assistant Professor) and at Saint Joseph's University , Department of Theology and Religious Studies (2015–2018 Professor, 2011–2015 Associate Professor, 2005–2011 Assistant Professor).

His main research interests are the historical and cultural contexts of the Hebrew Bible; Pentateuchal Studies; biblical law; Priestly literature; Economic, administrative, and legal systems of ancient Israel and Mesopotamia; Marriage, Gender, and Family Relationships in Antiquity and Religion and Law.
