Bruchus luteicornis is a species from the subfamily of the seed beetles (Bruchinae).
features
The 1.5–2.8 mm long beetles have a black base color. The tooth of the neck shield is in the middle of the page. The front of the pronotum is normally arched. There is a white spot behind the label on the wing covers . In the third space between the wing covers there is a small white spot on the front half of the wing. In the rear area of the wing covers, several small white spots indicate a cross band. The antennae of the males are completely red-yellow, while in the females the first five antennae and the last are red-yellow, the rest are black. The front and middle legs are red-yellow, the rear pair of legs is black.
Occurrence
The beetle species is widespread and common in Central, Southern and Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Way of life
The larvae of the beetle species develop in seeds of representatives of the genus of the vetch ( Vicia ). The larvae burrow into the developing seedlings and feed on the fruit. The adult beetles are mainly observed from March to May.
