The pouches is a small, flat pouch , which is supported with a cotton band or a cord around the neck. It is located under or above clothing and at chest or stomach level.

Neck pouches serve as an alternative or supplement to the wallet and thus to store money, documents and valuables. The advantages are that the user can stow important objects relatively securely directly on the body and that the dimensions are usually sufficient for a vaccination or passport.

history

Bags worn around the neck can already be detected among the North American Indians . A common form was the so-called medicine bag , in which the "medicine man" ( shaman ) kept various objects such as stones, herbs and other things that were ascribed supernatural powers. Others were used to store jewelry, personal care products, paint or sewing kits.

The bog body from Pangerfilze from the 18th century also had a neck pouch, as was discovered during the excavation in 1927.

Neck pouches were often worn by children in the 20th century, mostly at the request of their parents, which is why they were often considered “un cool ” by young people . Small change for the telephone, school tickets and other items were kept in them. Today the bag is used to keep money or valuables safe from pickpockets . It is also recommended in many travel guides for trips abroad in order to distribute means of payment to several places on the body and to carry important documents securely close to the body. The money belt is an alternative or addition to the neck pouch .

material

Neck pouches are usually made of soft leather or fabric. They are usually designed to be rather flat so that they do not show too much under clothing. Modern bags are closed with strong press studs or zippers .

Due to the way they are worn, they often have intensive body contact over a long period of time and are therefore exposed to higher temperatures as well as the influence of sweat and friction.
