Statutory tasks

A network of experts in the field of mosses and lichens is sought to improve research. To fulfill these tasks, BLAM publishes the scientific journal HERZOGIA. An annual international excursion is organized and various excursions and specialist conferences are offered. Further tasks are the promotion of research on mosses and lichens, contact with international organizations with similar objectives and the protection of lichens and mosses and their habitats. The BLAM provides free essays and summaries from the HERZOGIA.

Moss and Lichen of the Year

The BLAM's tasks until 2010 also included the proclamation of the moss and lichen of the year . Since 2011 the Nature Conservation Union Austria has been taking on this task for Germany and Austria together with BLAM.
