The Buckenberg barracks was a barracks in the Buckenberg district of Pforzheim .
The Buckenberg barracks were built in the 1930s for the German armed forces according to the plans of the government building councilor Karl Köllmel. The first occupation of the barracks took place in October 1936 by the III / Infantry Regiment 111. The barracks area is over 18 hectares and many of the barracks' buildings were listed . In the summer of 2007 almost all the buildings were demolished in order to transform the area into a residential area with a shopping center.

After the Second World War, French units were stationed in the barracks from 1951 to 1996, especially the 3rd Esterhazy Hussar Regiment from 1963. When it was moved to Immendingen in 1996, the military use of the barracks ended. At times the barracks were also used by the Americans. In particular from the soldiers of the Nike position , which was in the adjacent Hagenschieß.
After 1996 began a long period of endeavors towards a civil change of use ( conversion ). The Pforzheim municipal council refused to purchase the federally owned barracks site in 1999 and relied on private investors. However, a competition aimed at preserving the listed team building was unsuccessful.
On May 2nd and 3rd, the BrainStore ideas factory, together with young people and those affected, looked for ideas and concepts for the new Buckenberg area. According to the latest status, all buildings, with the exception of the armory, which is being converted into an artist's house, and the two entrance buildings, will be demolished and a housing estate will be built. The officers' apartments are excluded from this. These were refurbished and converted into multi-family houses and partly also as student residences for the Pforzheim University .
The adjacent training area has become the habitat explained and the location shooting in the Latvians Well Cottage is the formation of Dog Rescue Squadron of DRC used.
In May 2007 the buildings, with the exception of the armory and the horse clinic, were demolished. In their place, a new housing estate is to be built by a group of investors, including Stadtbau GmbH and Stadtwerke. Work on this began in December 2007 with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new shopping center.

In the years 2007 to 2013, the documentary film Tiergarten was created on behalf of the conversion company Buckenberg - a new district is created through the conversion of the Buckenberg barracks to the new Tiergarten district. It was directed by the documentary film director Marcel Wehn. From the perspective of the investors in the large-scale conversion project, the film comprehensively describes the development phase from the first idea for the new Tiergarten district to the advanced construction phase. Numerous contemporary witnesses and historians tell about the history of the Buckenberg barracks, such as the former soldier Ernst Stolterfoth of the 111 Infantry Regiment or the Pforzheim historian and author Hagen Franke.
