Bugenhagen Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bugenhagen Medal (sometimes also written as the Bugenhagen Medal by others than the donor ) is the highest award of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany . It is given to people who do volunteer work in the church. The award takes place annually on Reformation Day .

The north German reformer Johannes Bugenhagen is depicted on the front of the medal, and the dedication is stamped on the back: To love Christ is much better than to be omniscient .

The Bugenhagen Medal has been awarded in Hamburg since 1959 to outstanding personalities who have stood up for the North Elbian Church and, after renaming, for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Germany.
