Bugio is the southernmost island of the Portuguese Ilhas Desertas in the North Atlantic . It has an area of 3 km² and reaches a height of 388 m . The rugged island has a length of 7500 m from Ponta do Cágado ( German Cape of the Turtle ) in the north to Ponta da Agulha ( German needle point ) in the south. At its widest point, Bugio is 700 m wide.
The Cape Verde petrels that breed on Bugio are sometimes separated as the endemic species Pterodroma deserta . The clan is endangered according to the IUCN Red List.
