Buildings at Risk Register

A Buildings at Risk Register records buildings and other structures that are at risk from neglect or deterioration. Such registers exist in different parts of the UK .

In England the government organization English Heritage maintains a list of particularly endangered Grade I and Grade II * buildings . This directory also includes endangered Scheduled Monuments and Grade II structures in London . The first Buildings at Risk Register for all of England was published in 1998. The 2004 edition contains 1300 entries. The 2007 directory includes 1235 buildings and other structures; which are located in 16 greatest danger 127,900,000 for their rescue an estimated £ needed.

A similar register is established and maintained by the Scottish Civic Trust . It currently lists around 1000 structures.

Heritage at Risk Register

In July 2008, English Heritage replaced the “Buildings at Risk Register” with a new “Heritage at Risk Register”. In addition to endangered historical buildings, endangered important archaeological sites, historical parks and gardens, registered battlefields and protected wreck sites off the coast are listed.
