Max Werner-Kersten

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Max Werner-Kersten (* 1880 ; † 1948 ) was a German composer.

Life

He composed the famous hit Bummel-Petrus , which was published in 1920.

Around 1920, neither records nor radio were widespread, success in the hit area could only be achieved through the publication of sheet music and the inclusion in the repertoire of dance bands. The tune of Bummel-Petrus had already been rejected by eight publishers under the name Mühlenpolka when the hit writer Hermann Frey wrote the text. As a strolling Peter with the refrain

Peter closes the sky,
all angels go to rest.
Only the clever Peter is on the watch,
because the old kid is taking a little stroll with an angel today.

the piece, published by Otto Wrede , was a great success. In 1921, Hans Fischerkoesen drew a short film about the Bummel-Petrus as an advertising film for shoes.

Little is known about Max Werner-Kersten. According to the Berlin address books of that time, it is Max Werner, who is registered as the operator of a "concert agency" from 1913 to 1931. Since 1916 this has been operating under the address Jägerstrasse 63 1st floor. His private address was Steglitz, Lauenburger Str. 29, ground floor. The copywriter Hermann Frey therefore remembered a wrong house number in his book published in 1943, in which he reports on a visit to Werner-Kersten at Jägerstrasse 61. Frey referred to the composer in 1943 as "Werner Kersten" (ie Werner as first name, also in the register), but this was corrected in the citation of this book by Wrede-Verlag to "Werner-Kersten".
