Typical hamburger buns, so-called buns

A bun ( English bun , "small bread", "round bun") is a soft bun , optionally sprinkled with sesame, which is used in a round shape for hamburgers and in an elongated shape for hot dogs . The recipe corresponds roughly to a toasted bread dough and contains on average 8% fat, 5% sugar and specific baking agents. The rolls have a soft, fluffy structure with a short bite and are characterized by their long shelf life. The baking time is eight to twelve minutes.

The cut surfaces of such rolls are usually toasted before topping . This means that they will not soak up the dressing used as quickly . In addition, the resulting roasted substances give the end product a specific aroma.
