Federal working group of the deafblind

The Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft der Taubblinden eV (BAT) is an advocacy group for deaf-blind people in Germany and deals with the perception of socio-political, cultural and professional concerns and interests of this group of people.

The BAT is the successor organization of the German Cultural Association of the Visually Impaired Deaf and Deaf-Blind (DKT), founded in 2005 . It has the legal form of an association based in Recklinghausen and has been entered in the register of associations at the local court since 2006.

The association is a member of the German Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband (DPWV), the European Deafblind Union (EDBU) and the World Federation of the Deafblind (WFDB). She is also a partner in the German Society for Deafblindness.

Projects and demands

In order to enable participation in life and self-determination in society, the working group, together with other associations, campaigned for several years to introduce the symbol "Deafblindness" (TBL) in the severely handicapped ID card as well as the recognition of the profession of "deafblind assistance" Recognizes deafblindness as an independent disability and paves the way for special services and demands, such as personal assistance . The mark was adopted in the Federal Council at the end of 2016 as part of the reform of the Federal Participation Act.
