The Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium Seebacher is a Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium in Seebachergasse in the 2nd district of St. Leonhard in Graz in Styria .

history

With a private initiative, the first six-year-old girls' Lyceum in the Habsburg Monarchy was started on October 11, 1873 in Graz at today's Kaiserfeldgasse 29 with 74 students. From 1876 the school was located on Sackstraße in the Palais Khuenburg and thus in the so-called birthplace of the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este . In 1885 the girls' college was taken over by the city of Graz and in 1886 it was granted public rights . In 1902 the first Matura took place at the school. From 1912, the school was designated with Realgymnasiale advanced training school with public rights . After the World War in 1924 in the republic, the name changed to the Reform Realgymnasium and in 1927 to the Reformrealgymnasium with public rights . With 1935 under Austrofascism , the school was named Franz-Ferdinand-Oberlyzeum of the state capital Graz.

With the annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany, the pupils were taught from 1938 to 1940 in the Ursuline convent on Leonhardstrasse with the name First State High School for Girls . In 1940 the school sisters were briefly accommodated in the monastery on Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Kai and from 1941 to 1945 it was continued as a secondary school for girls or the Queen Luisen School in the Sacré Coeur Graz school building in Petersgasse.

After the Second World War, from 1945 to 1967, lessons for the girls took place in alternating lessons at the Bundesrealgymnasium for boys in Lichtenfelsgasse due to lack of space . With the school reform in 1962 , the new language grammar school and natural science secondary school were created.

On May 27, 1964, the foundation stone was laid for a new school building in Seebachergasse. On March 29, 1967, lessons began in the new building. In 1978 the first classes were co-educational and within seven years the whole school was transformed into co-educational. The tradition of special promotion of sport was strengthened in 1991 with the establishment of a school sports club. In 1992, the Seebachergymnasium celebrated 25 years and in 1993 120 years of the Girls' Lyceum in Graz .

From 2002 to 2005 the school building was completely renovated and refurbished. In 2010 an architecture competition for a further expansion of the high school was announced.
