Federal Jazz Conference

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bundeskonferenz Jazz (BKJazz) is the general cultural and political interest group for the German jazz scene. Since 2003 it has been claiming, as an overarching association, to bring together the existing competencies of professional organizations and institutions of jazz in Germany .

The BKJazz consists of representatives from nationwide relevant interest groups for jazz in Germany. The board members of the Union of German Jazz Musicians and the German Jazz Federation become members of the BKJazz almost automatically. Where, as at jazz festivals, the record industry, the media or jazz research, there are no nationwide associations, individuals without a formal mandate represent the interests of the relevant sector (jazz schools or universities with a jazz degree are not yet explicitly represented). New members and guests are invited to the BKJazz at the suggestion of the members.

The members nominate two to three speakers from among their ranks. These are elected for a period of two years. Selected speakers included Julia Hülsmann and are currently (2017) Felix Falk , Melanie Rossmann and Wolfram Knauer .
