The association was founded in 1967 as a working group "Well advised - bought at home". Over 50 companies that sell different products and services are organized in the BDD. These include B. Household goods, cleaning agents, components, beverages, dietary supplements , cosmetics and beauty articles, jewelry, pet food and energy services.

The member companies generated a turnover of 1.8 billion euros in 2015. A total of around 180,000 people work in the field in the BDD member companies. The most popular form of distribution in direct sales is the sales party: a sales party takes place every 22 seconds in Germany.

tasks

The tasks include representing the economic and legal interests of its members vis-à-vis the federal government as well as the national and European legislators, providing information about the peculiarities and advantages of direct sales through press and public relations work, and the further development, monitoring and enforcement of the "standards of conduct of the Direct Selling ”, which are voluntary, industry-internal competition rules for the sales force. The economic importance of direct sales is documented through the regular implementation of market studies and the promotion of a professional profile for the independent sales force. There are strategic alliances formed with associations of similar interests and the promotion of independent sales.

Standards of conduct

The member companies have committed themselves to adhering to standards of conduct that ensure fair cooperation in direct sales. The standards passed in 1980 regulate fair and honest dealings between companies and consumers, companies and sales representatives and between individual competitors. Compliance with these standards is monitored by the independent BDD control commission with equal representation.
