Federal Association for Memory Training

The Bundesverband Gedächtnistraining ( BVGT ) is a registered , non-profit association based in Idstein , which has set itself the task of promoting science and research in the field of memory and brain performance training. The purpose of the statutes is realized in particular through "scientific events and studies, training and further education in holistic memory training, and thereby the promotion of cognitive exercises and services to increase the quality of life at any age".

The association was founded on August 10, 1987 as the Federal Association for Memory Training according to Dr. med. Franziska Stengel e. V. was founded in Düsseldorf and is now called Bundesverband Gedächtnistraining e. V. It has around 3400 members.

The association is a member of the Federal Working Group of Senior Citizens' Organizations (BAGSO) and has been a member of the German Parity Welfare Association (DPWV) since 1991. Hans Georg Nehen, chief physician and head of the Haus Berge geriatric center (with memory clinic) in Essen , was the first chairman of the board of the Federal Association for Memory Training from 1995 to 2015. In 2016 he was replaced by Maria Cristina Polidori.

Mental Fitness Day

Since 2004 the BVGT has organized a “Mental Fitness Day” (R) once a year in September. This event takes place in more than 20 cities in Germany. The aim of the event is to bring holistic memory training closer to the general public, from young to old. In addition, the TdgF offers a memory training course that can be run through in a playful way, as well as various lectures and workshops on the subject of memory training.
