Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs

The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) is an office of the United States Department of State responsible for ocean, environment, science and technology, and health. The office has been headed by Jonathan Moore since March 2020.

The Oceans and Fisheries Directorate has two offices that deal with issues relating to the international oceans. The Office for Marine Conservation focuses on international fisheries and the problems related to the during the Office of Oceans and Polar Affairs law of the sea , marine pollution, the marine mammal , the polar matters maritime borders and the Oceanography care.

The Environment Directorate deals with environmental issues, including environmental aspects of international trade and the transportation of hazardous substances , which require multilateral agreements within the Office of Environmental Quality and Transboundary Affairs . The Office of Conservation and Water develops US foreign policy approaches to the conservation and management of global ecosystems as well as to cross-border water problems.

The Health, Space and Science Directorate comprises the Office of International Health Affairs , which works with US government agencies to facilitate policymaking on international bioterrorism , infectious diseases , surveillance and response, environmental health, and health in post-conflict situations. The Office of Space and Advanced Technology deals with issues arising from our space exploration to ensure global security in relation to this new frontier. The Office of Science & Technology promotes the interests of US science and technology communities in international politics, negotiates framework and other science and technology agreements, and takes a leadership role in representing US science and technology in multilateral international organizations such as UNESCO and other United Nations organizations , Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and others.
