Renzo Pi Hugarte

Renzo Pi Hugarte (born November 23, 1934 in Durazno ; † August 15, 2012 ) was a Uruguayan anthropologist and essayist .

Renzo Pi Hugarte, who has a doctorate, completed postgraduate studies at the University of Paris from 1967 to 1968, from which he graduated with a degree in Maîtrise Ethnology. From 1972 to 1974 he worked as a lecturer in several American countries. In 1981 he was responsible for drawing up the Plan Nacional de Capacitación de Seguridad Social in Quito and led courses on "Social Security" in Ecuador . Pi Hugarte published numerous articles in magazines and joint works and also appeared as a book author. Among other things, the two volumes "El legado de los inmigrantes" written together with Daniel Vidart in 1969 and 1970 , "Los indios del Uruguay", first published in Madrid in 1973 and later published in Quito (1995) and Montevideo (1998) and "Historias de" aquella gente gandul "- Españoles y criollos vs. indios en la Banda Oriental" from 1999 by him. Pi Hugarte was a professor (Grado 5) in the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the Universidad de la República . Until 1997 he worked there as director of the department for social and cultural anthropology and had the coordination function in the field of anthropological studies. He was buried in the Cementerio del Norte in Montevideo .
