The castle Karl Markt ( Polish Zamek w Karłowicach ) is a castle ensemble in Karłowice in the community Popielów ( Old Poppelau ) in Opole County in the province of Opole in Poland.
history
A Czambor de Kertzendorf appeared as a nobleman in 1344, later the von Tschammer family called themselves. The castle was built around 1350 as a knight's residence on a trapezoidal floor plan, with a cylindrical tower for protection from the west. A residential building is leaning against the inner eastern side of the defensive wall.
From 1440 the von Brees owned the castle. In 1565, Duke Georg II von Brieg bought the castle and it became the ducal hunting residence. From the possession of the dukes, the castle passed into imperial hands . In 1715 a baroque chapel for the local Catholics was built on the north side of the courtyard. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the southern and south-western buildings were erected.
Today's building stock
Younger additions have been added to the west and south walls of the enclosing wall , but most of the enclosing wall and the keep appear to date from the 14th century. The keep is a round tower made of brickwork .
