history

The exact time of origin is not known, but the name Lakum ( Lacheim ) indicates a Franconian foundation because of the ending -heim . This assumption is supported by the discovery of a Frankish burial ground from the 7th and 8th centuries near Lakum.

Until the middle of the 9th century, Lakum Castle was located directly on a loop in the Rhine , which was used by the Ruhr shortly afterwards after the Rhine was relocated . For this reason, Lakum not only had an upper court function until the end of the late Middle Ages , but also functioned as a port and, due to the connection to the Westphalian Hellweg, as a transhipment point. Although the house was on the lower terrace , the building was built on an artificially constructed value that can still be seen today.

Towards the end of the 9th century, the Oberhof Lakum of was Emperor Arnulf of Carinthia the Corvey given. Its abbey belonged to Lakum Castle and its courtyard until the 14th century. During this time, Lakum appears as Vitinkhof and Vittinchove (court of St. Vitus ). Then the court went to the Counts and Dukes of Kleve , who appointed a Vogt. In 1333 Konrad Stecke was Vogt on Lakum (also appears as Lakhem , Lakhern and op dem Hove ).

In 1821 the last leaseholder Johann Strüngmann bought the farm. The family owned the farm until the middle of the 20th century. Until 1964 there was still an archway with the year 1865. Today there are no structural remains of Lakum above ground.
