The ruined castle Hernstein is on the mountainside behind the castle Hernstein in the market town of Hernstein in the district of Baden in Lower Austria .

history

Mentioned in a document around 1170, the castle was owned by the Falkenstein lordship until 1260 . 1380 mostly pledged by sovereigns. In 1515 the castle was united with the Starhemberg dominion . The castle was mentioned in a document in 1524 as a desolate castle.

Castle ruins

The remains of a square defense tower with a wall thickness of 240 cm in the basement with ashlar stones and in the upper floor with quarry stone masonry have been preserved. On the south and north sides there is a rectangular window from the 12th century.
