The Hohenbüssow castle wall is a Slavic castle wall in the Alt Tellin municipality in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district . The ground monument is located about 1500 meters southeast of the village on the edge of the Hohenbüssow Forest. The Slavs took advantage of a terrain spur on the Tollensetal for the construction of their hidden hilltop castle . Today there is no direct route to the castle complex. The castle plateau has an oval ground plan of around 80 by 50 m. The height of the plateau to the lower surroundings is six to seven meters. The slopes are very steep and have probably been artificially reinforced by human hands. An access gate cannot be clearly located, but the plateau in the east is the flattest. This is where the entrance would have been. Since the wall is now in the forest and is surrounded by further mountain spurs and deep aisles, it could not be used for agriculture and is therefore very well preserved. Exactly to the north opposite the old Slavic castle hill lies another unforested mountain spur , which also carries remains of a wall. It is believed that both complexes formed a kind of double castle and existed in the 7th to 9th centuries. Ceramic finds from Feldberger Ware date both castles to this time.
